Kubuntu team officially announces the release of first Alpha release of Kubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" with new features for testing purposes. The developers announces that this release will be based on Plasma 5 and they need your feedbacks after testing Kubuntu 14.10 on your machines. According to official announcement, Kubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" Alpha 1 is based on KDE 4.13.2, Plasma 1 and Plasma 5. The community state that Plasma 1 is their recommended stable offering and whatever you might get from default download, you will receive it in maintenance mode.

The Plasma 1 allows you to run software with which you are familiar and you will also recieve software updates and several bug fixes. Unfortunately, the Plasma 1 doesn't bring any new features, so you have to wait until its final release. Apart from Plasma 1, Kubuntu 14.10 will also introduce Plasma 5 whose work is in progress. The next generation of KDE Software is still a work in progress. The community also provided PPA for Plasma 5 which you can install it from Kubuntu Next PPA but remember that it will remove your stable software. The main highlighted feature of Kubuntu 14.10 Alpha 1 release is based in KDE Applications and Platform 4.13.2 which mianly includes several bug fixes. Some of these known problems includes syslinux offers no OEM mode on Kubuntu Utopic Alpha 1, ubiquity-kde fails to install Kubuntu in non-English and Ubiquity-side bar is broken on the initial page for the KDE UI. Bluesystems development teams officially announces the release of Netrunner Rolling 2014.09 with several updated applications along with few improvements. Well this release is based on tenth update pack of Manjaro 0.8.10 which was released few days ago. The team consistently maintaining their own repository by adding new and additional packages and tweaks to their release.

According to official announcement, Netrunner Rolling 2014.09 comes with support for KDE 4.14, addition of Marble & Cheese, new wallpapers and main cursor theme. It allows you to switch to single click default and replaces Nepomuk with Baloo. The Netrunner Rolling is 100% compatible with Manjaro and allows you to add new theme for KDE desktop. Manjaro development team officially announces the release of first release candidate version of Manjaro KDE 0.8.11 Edition with updated packages and fixes. This release comes with updated KDE themes and also fixes all the issues which were reported in previous RC release. Well this is just a maintenance release which primarily designed for testing purposes, so that more issues will be fixed before the final stable release. According to official announcement, Manjaro KDE 0.8.11 RC1 comes with updated Linux Kernel 3.16 along with latest version of MESA libraries and other proprietary drivers. KDE Community officially announces the release of KDE 4.14.3 for both applications and development platform. Well as you know that this is the third release in the series of monthly stabilization updates to KDE 4.14.x series. This might be the last release under 4.14 series because the project has been decoupled into KDE Frameworks 5, KDE Plasma and KDE Applications.

According to official announcement, KDE 4.14.3 Applications and Platform comes with minor bugfixes and few translation updates which together provides a safe and pleasant update for its users. This release includes more than 50 recorded bugfixes which primarily includes improvements to E-Mail client KMail, Umbrello UML Modeller, the document viewer Okular, RSS application Akregator and file manager Dolphin. Some of the fixes which are made in KDE 4.14.3 includes add option to open-with and also disable preview, automount of new devices does not work, automount of removable media fails, cursor disappears when black background color is selected, dolphin view always follows console CWD, untranslatable strings in titrationCalculator.cpp and video preview in information panel don't work. Manjaro development team officially announces the release of stable and final version of Manjaro 0.8.11 with new features. Well from previous RC releases, the team was quite focusing on common core requirements of Manjaro's broad user-base. The Xfce flavor of Manjaro 0.8.11 is considered as the flagship release for this year.

According to official announcement, the developers of Manjaro Xfce claims that they ship components from Xfce 4.11 series after having tested them in house and also ensures suitability for everyday use. The Manjaro Xfce 0.8.11 now uses LightDM for login management, display locking and user switching including custom integration for Xfce.

The Turkish Manjaro community state that Manjaro 0.8.11 KDE edition is one of the powerful, mature and feature-rich desktop environment with unique look and feel along with perks of Manjaro's latest tools.
