Kubuntu 14.10 Alpha 1 "Utopic Unicorn" released with KDE 4.13.2 & Plasma 5


Kubuntu team officially announces the release of first Alpha release of Kubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" with new features for testing purposes. The developers announces that this release will be based on Plasma 5 and they need your feedbacks after testing Kubuntu 14.10 on your machines. According to official announcement, Kubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" Alpha 1 is based on KDE 4.13.2, Plasma 1 and Plasma 5. The community state that Plasma 1 is their recommended stable offering and whatever you might get from default download, you will receive it in maintenance mode.

The Plasma 1 allows you to run software with which you are familiar and you will also recieve software updates and several bug fixes. Unfortunately, the Plasma 1 doesn't bring any new features, so you have to wait until its final release. Apart from Plasma 1, Kubuntu 14.10 will also introduce Plasma 5 whose work is in progress. The next generation of KDE Software is still a work in progress. The community also provided PPA for Plasma 5 which you can install it from Kubuntu Next PPA but remember that it will remove your stable software. You can easily download ISO Image of Kubuntu 14.10 Alpha 1 "Utopic Unicorn" for your machines.

The main highlighted feature of Kubuntu 14.10 Alpha 1 release is based in KDE Applications and Platform 4.13.2 which mianly includes several bug fixes. There are some known problems which community shared with its users. Some of these known problems includes syslinux offers no OEM mode on Kubuntu Utopic Alpha 1, ubiquity-kde fails to install Kubuntu in non-English and Ubiquity-side bar is broken on the initial page for the KDE UI.
