Kubuntu 14.10 Beta 1 "Utopic Unicorn" released with KDE 4.14 & Plasma 5 Support


The Kubuntu development team officially announces the release of Kubuntu 14.10 Beta 1 "Utopic Unicorn" with support for Plasma 5 and KDE 4.14 for testing purposes. This release is just a maintenance release with few known issue which will be resolved by the final release. It mainly includes KDE 4.14 and Plasma 5 which are now available for testing purposes only.

According to official announcement, Kubuntu 14.10 Beta 1 "Utopic Unicorn" officially available for download with support for KDE 4.14 and Plasma 5. According to release, Plasma 4 is recommended one which you will get as default Plasma which is currently in maintenance mode. It runs software you are familiar with and will be getting updates and bug fixes but not new features from now on.

With the release of this beta version, the team also provides Plasma 5 image which you can download and text it or install it on your Kubuntu system but before installation firstt remove the stable Plasma from your system. The Kubuntu 14.10 Beta 1 release also comes with minor known issues related with Plasma 5 like no install icon on desktop, ubiquity-dm does not run on kubuntu plasma5 images, permissions issue, no web browser in app menu, no SDDM autologin even if ubiquity box is set, khelpcenter docs misses any themeing and plasma5 phonon kcm misses icons.
