Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 Beta 2 available for Testing with GNOME 3.12


Ubuntu GNOME development team officially announces the release of Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 Beta 2 "Utopic Unicorn" with new features and improvements. Well this is the final beta release of Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 which is going to release on 23rd October, 2014. Currently this release is beta phase and only available for testing purposes, so use it very carefully.

According to official announcement, Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 Beta 2 comes with default GNOME 3.12 desktop environment. As you know that few days ago, GNOME 3.14 desktop was released but the Ubuntu GNOME developers stick with older GNOME desktop environment which also allows its users to upgrade to newer version via PPA available in Ubuntu repository.

Apart from GNOME 3.12 desktop, you will be able to find other GNOME applications like GNOME Maps, GNOME Shell and GNOME Weather. Currently, the GNOME desktop still facing some known issues like Utopic ubiquity froze while reformatting existing partition, can't select which drive to resize when using "install alongside" in Trusty. Other known issues are Utopic installation freezes during partition creation, after reboot of Ubuntu Gnome installation, password for LVM encryption is not accepted and Ubiquity offers to erase existing OS rather than use entire disc even when more than one disc exists.
