OpenSUSE 11.4 officially becomes Dead with No Further Active Support
Wolfgang officially announces the end of support for OpenSUSE 11.4 distro. Well the support limit for OpenSUSE 11.4 Evergreen is only valid until July, 2014 but the community decided to extend its support for months more and now they have ended the support for OpenSUSE 11.4.
According to one of the announcement by Wolfgang state that, "While I was hoping that we can keep 11.4 alive for some time longer this is currently not possible from what I would call the "core team" which is Stefan and myself. We are too busy nowadays to be able to scan and patch every issue we get aware of. Thanks to you all who contributed to the success of Evergreen/11.4!". Some of the developers state that the repository still receives updates from package maintainers for those who still wants to work on OpenSUSE 11.4. As you have noticed that the recent releases of patches for the bash and NSS issues are provided for this release but there is no guarantee that every security issue will be fixed. OpenSUSE 13.2 Beta 1 available for Testing with Updated Applications
openSUSE development team officially announces the release of openSUSE 13.2 Beta 1 with new features along with updated applications. Well as you can see that this is the beta release which is now available for testing purposes. It's being long time to hear something new from openSUSE development team as you know that few months ago, openSUSE altered their development cycle from 6 months to 12 months.
According to official announcement, openSUSE 13.2 Beta 1 comes with lot of updated apps like Linux Kernel 3.16, GNOME 3.12, Plasma Workspaces 4.11, KDE applications 4.13 mixed with 4.14. Apart from this, some of the applications are in testing phase which includes Plasma 5.1, Frameworks 5.2 and latest KDE Applications and Platform. Also, review recent Linux Distro News to know what's new in them ?
The LibreOffice is updated to 4.3.1.2 version where as btrfsprogs is updated to 3.16 version. The btrfs will be the default filesystem in this release. The AppArmor 2.9 beta comes with new python-based tools which were developed during GSoC 2013 and some new rule types to mediate sockets, ptrace, signals and dbus along with other profile updates and bug fixes. OpenSUSE 13.2 RC1 rolls out with GNOME 3.14, Firefox 32 & KDE 4.14.1
OpenSUSE development team officially announces the release of OpenSUSE 13.2 RC1 with new features and improvements. Well the previous beta release was downloaded by over 10,000 users, so OpenSUSE team is quite excited about the release of OpenSUSE 13.2 because of its awesome response from regular users of OpenSUSE.
According to official announcement, OpenSUSE 13.2 RC1 comes with bug fixes of issues found and reported since the release of first beta version of OpenSUSE 13.2. This release candidate also brings some of the important updates to desktop experience. This release includes updated KDE 4.14.1 along with Plymouth 0.9.0 which helps to boost stability and smoothness of end user experience.
