Slackware based Salix Fluxbox 14.1 available for Download with Updated Apps


Salix Linux development team officially announces the release of Salix Fluxbox 14.1 with new features and updated applications. Well the Salix Fluxbox is specially designed to bring minimalist environment to your desktop.

According to official announcement, Salix Fluxbox 14.1 comes with default Firefox browser, PCManFM file manager, office suites like Abiword and Gnumeric, Whaawmp as default video player and Exaile as default audio media library. It also includes Salix Codecs Installer to install all kinds of restricted codecs which you might need.

The Salix Fluxbox 14.1 includes Mtpaint as default picture editor along with other applications like Transmission torrent client and Claws email client. The package management is primarily handled by Gslapt and slapt-get where as access to SlackBuilds repositories is provided by Sourcery. Apart from this, spi, command line tool, is also available in this release which allows you to install packages from both binary package repositories and SlackBuilds repositories.

The Fluxbox menu uses xdgmenumaker to create a list of installed applications like any other environments. The installation of Salix Fluxbox 14.1 is done in three different modes, named as Full mode, Basic mode and Core mode. The default Full mode allows you to install all available software in ISO where as the Basic mode only install Fluxbox along with Salix system tools and package management applications. The Basic mode is specially intended for advanced users which would like to customize their own Fluxbox installation according to their requirements.
