Samba Server 4.1.9 released with Fixed CPU Loop & Server Crash Issues
Samba Server officially announces the release of Samba 4.1.9 which is ninth security release under 4.1.x series of Samba. The main objective of Samba 4.1.9 release is fixing the issues of denial of service which arises during CPU loop and server crash or memory corruption.
According to official announcement, Samba 4.1.9 release contains only two major bug fixes. The first one is about fixing of CPU loop issue. All current versions of Samba up to 4.1.8 are vulnerable to denial of service on the nmbd NetBIOS name services daemon. A malformed packet can cause the nmbd server to loop the CPU and prevent any further NetBIOS name service.
The flaw of CPU looping is not exploitable beyond causing the code to loop expending CPU resources. Another bug fixes is about server crash or memory corruption. According to this issue, All current released versions of Samba are affected by a denial of service crash involving overwriting memory on an authenticated connection to the smbd file server.
