Canonical announces that Ubuntu 15.05 will be based on Kernel 3.18 RC2
Joseph Salisbury, developer at Canonical, officially announces the upcoming Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" will be based on latest Linux Kernel 3.18 RC2 release. As you know that, Linus announced the release of latest Kernel 3.18 RC2 release on last Sunday, so canonical team is planning to continue with 3.18 RC2 kernel as default kernel in the development of Ubuntu 15.04.
According to official announcement made by Ubuntu Kernel team, it is officially confirmed that the development of Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" has been started and uses Kernel 3.18 RC2 as default kernel. The Canonical and Ubuntu developers always try to include latest Kernel version during their stable release even in beta and RC release. About including Kernel 3.18 RC2, Joseph Salisbury state that, "The Vivid kernel has been opened and master-next rebased to the lastest v3.18-rc2 upstream kernel. Ubuntu Kylin 14.10 finally available for Download with Enhanced & Updated Apps
Ubuntu Kylin development team officially announces the release of final Ubuntu Kylin 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" with improved stability along with newly added features which provides better user experience. Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" going to receive default Integrated Local Menus
Canonical and Ubuntu developers officially decided to integrate local menus by default in upcoming Ubuntu 15.04 release. As you know that Ubuntu uses menus for all apps in top corner for all application. Well if some of you ever used Mac OS X then you might know that this concept is taken from Mac OS X but there are lot of Ubuntu users who prefer to use local menus instead of global menus.
According to one of the announcement at Unity, the local menus was already present in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and so does in upcoming Ubuntu 15.04 but with improved display appearance. You will see the local menus of any application until you close it. This release also set LIM as default in Ubuntu 15.04 release.
The commit message of this feature state that "Decorations, Panel: add menus for unfocused windows as well. Now the indicator-appmenu exports the menus for all windows, then it's up to us filter them based on their parent window and show on relevant place". Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu and Canonical, officially announces the release of Ubuntu 4.10 codenamed as "The Warty Warthog Release" on the occasion of tenth anniversary of Ubuntu Linux. 32-bit ISO Images of Ubuntu will be available till Ubuntu 16.04 LTS release
Few months ago, Ubuntu and Canonical developers had decided that they will not provide 32-bit ISO Images in near future, but it seems that the developers still considering to provide 32-bit ISO Images until decision has been made regarding this. The support for 32-bit images will be continue for next two years.
According to official announcement at Online Ubuntu Summit, it is officially confirmed that the upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS flavor for desktop, server abd cloud will be the last release which will be available in 32-bit ISO Image. According to over 580 surveys conducted by Ubuntu developers, it was confirmed that the lot of users doesn't want 32-bit ISO Images and it also consumes lot of data over the download servers.
Apart from Ubuntu and its derivatives, there are several other distros which already stops providing 32-bit ISO Images for their respective distros. Ubuntu community try to communicate with its users so that they won't get disappointed later on. The main website claims that less than 20% users download and install 32-bit Ubuntu ISO Images and this number is decreasing according to the future releases. Ubuntu 14.04 based Ultimate Edition 4.4 released with MATE 1.8 & Tomsb Support
TheeMahn, founder of Ultimate operating system, officially announces the release of Ultimate Edition 4.4 with new features and improvements. Well Ultimate Edition 4.4 was built from ground up debootstrapped from Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn tree using Tmosb (TheeMahn's Operating System Builder).
According to official announcement, Ultimate Edition 4.4 operating system comes with Mate 1.8 repository and support for Tmosb which allows you to build this sever operating system with your own. Currently, this release is not a Long Term Support release unlike Ubuntu 14.04 LTS release. You can also download the ISO Image of Ultimate Edition 4.4 to install it on your machine.
Presently, TheeMahn is focusing on stability of this version and also dealing with hosting companies as they back to back keep shutting them down due to huge traffic. Ubuntu Online Summit for Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" starts in Couple of Days
Ubuntu community officially announces the Ubuntu Online Summit for upcoming Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet". Well you all know that this is the yearly community event by and for community which primarily covers a wide range of topics including new features, improvements in existing features. According to official announcement, this year's Ubuntu Online Summit for next Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" going to happen from November 12 - November 14 from 1400 UTC to 2000 UTC. Ubuntu 14.04 based ExTiX 14.1.2 gets Kernel 3.16, VLC 2.1.4 & Updated Apps
ExTiX development team officially announces the release of ExTiX 14.1.2 with new features. ExTiX 14.1.2 is another 64-bit Debian/Ubuntu 14.04 LTS based Linux Distro which includes Gnome 3.10, Gnome Classic 3.10 and Razor-qt 0.5.2. $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppa
Step 2 : Next, run or copy the following command in terminal to update recently added PPA for Ubuntu Tweak 0.8.8 in the software repository on your Ubuntu 14.04 system.
$ sudo apt-get update
Step 3 : Finally, run or copy the following command in terminal to install latest Ubuntu Tweak 0.8.8 on your Ubuntu 14.04 system.
$ sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak
After installation, search for "Ubuntu Tweak" in Unity Dash and lauch it from there. You customize your current Ubuntu theme with the help of Ubuntu Tweak tool.
