Kubuntu 14.10 Alpha 1 "Utopic Unicorn" released with KDE 4.13.2 & Plasma 5
Kubuntu team officially announces the release of first Alpha release of Kubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" with new features for testing purposes. The developers announces that this release will be based on Plasma 5 and they need your feedbacks after testing Kubuntu 14.10 on your machines. According to official announcement, Kubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" Alpha 1 is based on KDE 4.13.2, Plasma 1 and Plasma 5. The community state that Plasma 1 is their recommended stable offering and whatever you might get from default download, you will receive it in maintenance mode.
The Plasma 1 allows you to run software with which you are familiar and you will also recieve software updates and several bug fixes. Unfortunately, the Plasma 1 doesn't bring any new features, so you have to wait until its final release. Apart from Plasma 1, Kubuntu 14.10 will also introduce Plasma 5 whose work is in progress. The next generation of KDE Software is still a work in progress. The community also provided PPA for Plasma 5 which you can install it from Kubuntu Next PPA but remember that it will remove your stable software. You can easily download ISO Image of Kubuntu 14.10 Alpha 1 "Utopic Unicorn" for your machines.
The main highlighted feature of Kubuntu 14.10 Alpha 1 release is based in KDE Applications and Platform 4.13.2 which mianly includes several bug fixes. There are some known problems which community shared with its users. Some of these known problems includes syslinux offers no OEM mode on Kubuntu Utopic Alpha 1, ubiquity-kde fails to install Kubuntu in non-English and Ubiquity-side bar is broken on the initial page for the KDE UI. Fedora 21 Alpha available for Download and Testing from 23rd September
The Fedora development team officially announces the release date of Fedora 21 Alpha which is 23rd September, 2014. Well guys as you know that after few hours, Fedora 21 Alpha will be available for public usage. This release is one of the most awaited release in the history of Fedora releases because it almost delayed twice from its regular schedule.
According to official announcement made at Go-No-Go meeting, it is officially confirmed that the Fedora 21 Alpha will be available for download from Tuesday, 23rd September 2014. This is the first release which is continously postponed again and again, and it is finally available for download and testing.
After checking all the release criteria, the Fedora Engineering Steering Commitee at Go/No Go meeting waved their flags for releasing Fedora 21 Alpha for download and testing. The Fedora 21 Alpha will be the first test release of the new 3 product Fedora.next structure which introduces Fedora Workstation, Fedora Cloud and Fedora Server. Lubuntu 15.04 Alpha 1 available for Testing with LXDE & Kernel 3.16 Support
Lubuntu development team officially announces the release of first Alpha version of Lubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet". Well this Alpha version give its users a rough idea what will be new in final and stable release of Lubuntu 15.04 distro. As you know that this is Alpha version and currently available for testing purposes so reported issues will be fixed by final release.
According to official announcement, Lubuntu 15.04 Alpha 1 still uses LXDE Desktop Environment along with few upgraded packages. The first Alpha version of Lubuntu 15.04 includes Linux Kernel 3.16.0-28.38 which is based on upstream Kernel 3.16 version. The Lubuntu Desktop Installer comes with no option to install alongside a btrfs partition and installs alongside offers to install to USB boot media instead of hard drive. You can also download the ISO Image of Lubuntu 15.04 Alpha 1 to install it on your machine.
Apart from these new features, Lubuntu 15.04 Alpha 1 also includes some known issues which will be fixed by the final release of Ubuntu 15.04. Evolve OS Alpha 3 Linux available for download with Budgie Desktop Environment
Evolve OS development team officially announces the release of third Alpha version of upcoming Evolve OS Linux Distro. Evolve OS is a new Linux Distro which is based on new desktop environment known as Budgie. The Budgie desktop environment was first developed by Ikey Doherty.
According to official announcement made by Ikey Doherty, Evolve OS Alpha 3 is the final release of Alpha series which will contain almost all the features which you will be getting in stable Evolve OS release. The default Budgie desktop environment provides user friendly and familiar desktop experience.
As you know that this release doesn't include EFI support, so developers state that they will going to publish EFI image sometime by the end of this week. This is the last Alpha release so it contains almost all updated packages which you are going to notice in stable Evolve OS release. The ALSA is now correctly configured and integrated with PulseAudio which you could verify by attempting by listening flash video in YouTube via headphones. Apart from desktop environment, Evolve OS Alpha 3 also going to provide up to date and most updated packages in repositories. Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 available with EFI Support, Improved Themes, Fixes
Ubuntu Mate development team officially announces the release of Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 "Utopic Unicorn" with new features and fixes issues which were reported since Alpha 1 release. Ubuntu MATE is a flavor which provides default MATE desktop environment and this alpha release includes improvements in existing packages.
According to official announcement, Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 "Utopic Unicorn" comes with support for booting EFI computers along with addition of language-selector-gnome after the request from gnome community. It also provides "out of the box" accessibility for blind or visually impaired individuals, ubuntu-mate-settings package to provide sane defaults and ubuntu-like panel layout.
