Fedora 22 might receive Pantheon Desktop as default Desktop Environment

Wesley Hearn, developer at Red Hat and Fedora, officially made a proposal for including Pantheon Desktop Environment in upcoming Fedora 22 release. Well the Pantheon Desktop is a slick lightweight open-source GTK3/Vala desktop currently being developed for elementary OS. This new desktop will allows its users to choose between multiple desktop environments available in Fedora's repository and might bring more users to Fedora.

According to official announcement, Wesley Hearn who is working on Pantheon Desktop Environment which is quite similar as of desktop environment of Elementary OS. This new desktop environment is completely written from scratch using Vala and GTK3 toolkit. Comparing its usability and appearance, this new desktop will have some similarities with GNOME Shell and Mac OS X. Also, review recent Linux Distro News to know what's new in them ?

Currently, 5% work has been completed for this new desktop and developers like Wesley Hearn, Christopher Meng and Germano Massullo are working on this desktop, so that it will be introduced in final release of Fedora 22. Fedora 21 Alpha available for Download and Testing from 23rd September


The Fedora development team officially announces the release date of Fedora 21 Alpha which is 23rd September, 2014. Well guys as you know that after few hours, Fedora 21 Alpha will be available for public usage. This release is one of the most awaited release in the history of Fedora releases because it almost delayed twice from its regular schedule.

According to official announcement made at Go-No-Go meeting, it is officially confirmed that the Fedora 21 Alpha will be available for download from Tuesday, 23rd September 2014. This is the first release which is continously postponed again and again, and it is finally available for download and testing.

After checking all the release criteria, the Fedora Engineering Steering Commitee at Go/No Go meeting waved their flags for releasing Fedora 21 Alpha for download and testing. The Fedora 21 Alpha will be the first test release of the new 3 product Fedora.next structure which introduces Fedora Workstation, Fedora Cloud and Fedora Server. Fedora 22 Beta available for Download in Cloud, Server & Workstation Editions

Fedora development team officially announces the release of Fedora 22 Beta with a preview of latest free and open source technology. Well as the name resembles, this is beta version which is primarily available to identify bugs and also includes several new features which might be implemented in final release. The final release of Fedora 22 is expected to arrive in mid May.

According to official announcement, Fedora 22 Beta has faster and better dependency management because Yum is replaced with DNF as default package manager. Well DNF has similar command line options and configuration files compared to yum along with several major internal changes including using libsolv in coordination with friends from openSUSE project for faster and better dependency management. Currently, Fedora 22 beta is available in three flavors which are Fedora 22 Cloud, Fedora 22 Server and Fedora 22 Workstation. The Fedora 22 Cloud comes with number of improvements such as updated versions of rpm-ostree and rpm-ostree-toolbox along with atomic command line tool. Fedora 22 Beta is all set to release on 21 April, 2015 with Linux 4.0 Support

Jaroslav Reznik, developer at Red Hat, officially announces the that Fedora 22 Beta is all set to get release and schedule to release on April 21, 2015. As the name suggest, Fedora 22 Beta is another beta release of upcoming release which is primarily available for testing purposes.

According to official announcement made by Red Hat community at Go/No-Go Meeting, it is officially confirmed that Fedora 22 Beta gets green flag from the community. It will be available for public usage from 21st April, 2015. All the regular users of Fedora already know that the release of Fedora 22 Beta already gets delayed by one week.

The upcoming Fedora 22 Beta distro comes with several new features. Among them, one of the major feature is the addition of Linux Kernel 4.0. Fedora 21 Alpha officially get Delayed by One Week, Once Again !!!


Jaroslav Reznik, developer at Red Hat, officially unviel that the upcoming Fedora 21 Alpha is now delayed by one week late. Well as you know that few days ago, the development team already postponed the scheduled release of Fedora 21 Alpha distro and now they again shifted the day to release one week later.

According to announcement made by Jaroslav Reznik, the developers at Go/No-Go meeting decided to slip the Fedora 21 Alpha release by one week because of unresolved blocker bugs and no release candidate available for this release. The developers are quite optimistic that they could possibly release the Alpha version by next week if netinst stuff works fine. The final announcement of the exact date of release of Fedora 21 Alpha will be revealed in next Go/No-Go meeting which is going to happen on next Thursday, 18th Spetember 2014. Fedora development team after quite a long time finally going to release upcoming Fedora 21 distro today with new features. The actual release of Fedora 21 is schedule on 9th December, 2014 and it is right on time for its release. Well you know that Fedora 21 is the first release of Fedora.Next branch which divides Fedora in three different flavors including Fedora Cloud, Fedora Server and Fedora Workstation.

The three flavors of Fedora 21 are categorized based on their usage like Fedora Cloud is used for cloud computing purposes whereas Fedora Server is used for server or networking purposes and Fedora Workstation is dedicated to users who wants to use Fedora as their desktop operating system. The brief introduction of upcoming features of Fedora 21 includes support for GNOME 3.14 desktop environment which is upgraded version of GNOME 3.10. Josef announces Fedora 23 will include Btrfs Filesystem as default Filesystem

Josef Bacik, developer at Fedora, officially announces that Fedora 22 or 23 will include Btrfs file system as default file system. Well earlier Btrfs filesystem was proposed for next Fedora 22 release but developer pushing it for Fedora 23 release. The OpenSUSE 13.2 which is going to release in November will have default Btrfs file system.

According to official announcement by Josef, "My plan is to push for F23, I'm still wrapping up some balance bugs and some other issues we've found at work and then this will be my next priority". He also explain that "SUSE benefits from Btrfs file system by having a narrow "supported" criteria, like only use it with lots of space and don't use any of the RAID stuff, plus they have two kernel guys on it and Dave Sterba who is now in charge of btrfs-progs". As you know that Fedora 21 haven't released yet and the developers are planning for Fedora 23 release. The current implementation of Btrfs file system is already done by Dave Sterba in upcoming OpenSUSE 13.2 and Fedora developers are quite late for implementing Brfs file system. Fedora 19 officially reached its End of Support & won't get futher Updates

Kevin Fenzi, developer at Scrye, officially announces that on 6th January, 2015 Fedora 19 officially reached its end of support state, which means that no further support or updates will be provided for Fedora 19 distro. In last month, the Fedora team already made an announcement regarding this, so now they have official end the support for Fedora 19 for further use.

According to official announcement by Kevin, it is confirmed that Fedora 19 users won't receive any further updates including security updates as well as packages updates whereas Fedora 20 users will receive updates until approximately one month after the release of Fedora 22. Those who are still using Fedora 19 can upgrade their operating system to Fedora 20 or Fedora 21. Also, review recent Linux Distro News to know what's new in them ?

Few weeks ago, Fedora 21 was released, so if you are using any previous versions then you must upgrade your operating system to Fedora 21 without installing new one.
