Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 available with EFI Support, Improved Themes, Fixes


Ubuntu Mate development team officially announces the release of Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 "Utopic Unicorn" with new features and fixes issues which were reported since Alpha 1 release. Ubuntu MATE is a flavor which provides default MATE desktop environment and this alpha release includes improvements in existing packages.

According to official announcement, Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 "Utopic Unicorn" comes with support for booting EFI computers along with addition of language-selector-gnome after the request from gnome community. It also provides "out of the box" accessibility for blind or visually impaired individuals, ubuntu-mate-settings package to provide sane defaults and ubuntu-like panel layout. If we look at improvements, then Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 includes improved seeds and meta packages, improved Ambiance and Radiance themes, improved mono-icons to better integrate with MATE and improved font rendering. The main fixes includes fixed Network Manager applet, fixed default icons in LibreOffice and fixed inconsistent theme in live session installer. Other changes includes removal of some features which were part of Alpha 1 or earlier release. The features which are removed from Ubuntu 14.10 Alpha 2 includes removed caja-image-converter, caja-share, mate-user-share and removed remmina.
