New Ubuntu Touch Release does not promote Images because of Multiple Issues
Ubuntu Touch development team announces that the developers facing lot of problems while dealing with bug fixes. According to them, this week is one of the unluck because they are not able to promote images of Ubuntu Touch as multiple issues arises at a time.
According to official announcement, the developers are working to fix the issues which creates a problem while promoting images. The team haven't released any new update for quite a while because internally they are resolving lot of issues at a time. Recently, developers had a problem related with recent images and currently they all are working on it.
The Ubuntu Touch developers state that "First our landings were stalled because of chroot problems in the archives - and when we were finally able to build and land everything that was required to unblock promotion, image #150 appeared to be completely un-bootable! The root cause has been identified (in the recent changes in user handling) with a work-around quickly hacked and released. Image #151 is now available in the -proposed channel and it should be usable once again!".
The team claims that Image #151 will be their first promotion candidate. On Monday, they will check how the test results for this and the subsequent images look like and try to announce a new level channel addition as soon as possible. On Monday, the community will switch to TRAINCON-0 mode which means risky and non-bugifx landings will have to be double-tested by QA specialists. Mir Display Server and Unity 8 updated with UI and Translation Fixes
The Ubuntu Phone development team officially announces the release of new update for Mir Display Server and Unity 8 with minor bug fixes. Well as you know that the development of Mir and Unity 8 is going on at slow speed, but every release contains some fixes which were reported by users.
According to official announcement, Mir Display Server now works on critical/high priority bugs. It also continue working on devel/Mir 0.8, promoted Mir 0.7.2 with some minor bug fixes. This updated Mir wound down on privating Mir server interface which mainly deals with knock on effects of packaging.
The Unity 8 also receives some of the fixes like fixing of some translation bugs along with dash UI related issues. It also fixes promotion blocker for touch/edge issues. Apart from these fixes, Unity 8 also reviews some of the update requests from design re dash and indicators.
Currently, Unity 7 is used on Ubuntu 14.04 but as we know that in October, Ubuntu 14.10 is coming so it might be possible that it will come up with Unity 8 as default desktop environment where as Ubuntu Phones already received updated Mir and Unity 8 support. Canonical & Ubuntu organizes Unicorn Origami Competition at dConstruct Event
Giorgio Venturi officially announces that recently Canonical was present at dConstruct conference, held at Brighton in Great Britain, where the Canonical team disclosed how to make Unicorn Origami. The Brighton mostly known for being a overcrowded place along with home of thriving community of designers, makers and entrepreneurs.
The dConstruct is an event where creative minds around the globe are gathered every year and discuss important themes about digital innovation and culture. This year's dConstruct event is sponsored by Canonical where they primarily flashes orange banner of Ubuntu and a number of Origami Unicorns.
According to report, it is revealed that lot of event attendees gave positive response. The Canonical team also had few BQ phones on display where they showed new features and designs. This event provides fresh information regarding the user experience on phone and across a variety of apps.
The team also presents pre-release models of BQ phones which doesn't have final shell but still display softkeys which results lot of confused people. So, the team quickly design their custom BQ phone by using a bunch of Ubuntu stickers.
The Canonical team also organizes the "Make your Unicorn" competition where maker of best origami unicorn will be awarded with a new phone. The attendees did not hesitate to tackle the complex paper-bending challenge and came up with a bunch of creative outcomes. This competition gave s wonderful and unexpected response. Unity 8 and Mir officially receives New Updates & Fixes for QtComp
Canonical developers officially announces the release of Unity 8 and Mir with new updates. The developers are continuously working on new features of Unity 8 and Mir. This recently released updated Unity 8 and Mir contains minor fixes along with few improvements.
According to official announcement, Unity 8 officially receives new updated for user interface. It includes fixing an issue in QtComp which is one of the most awaited fixes till now. The updated Unity 8 deliver a little more scope customization ability and also continues working on outstanding requests put up by its end users.
The Unity 8 also investigate next requests such as password failure timeouts and welcome wiz encouraging password use. It also provides scope overview integration updates with backend along with preparation of dash-as-app. It also bug fixes from outcome of Design team's fit-n-finish sprint.

Unity 8 will be introduced in Ubuntu 16.04 after taking Feedbacks from Users
Recently, Mark Shuttleworth announces that they prefer to take users reviews about Unity 8 before introducing it finally in the upcoming release which is Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. The Ubuntu developers think that they should include Unity 8 after taking feedbacks from Ubuntu users as it allows them to make improvements in further releases.
According to one of the announcement made by Silviu Stahie, it is clear that the community is still in doubt whether it is accepted by users or not. In his announcement, he says "Unity 8 is coming and I don't think users will be very open minded about all the changes. And there are going to be a lot of them."
The recently released Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" includes Unity 7 desktop environment and the Ubuntu Touch community is planning to introduce Unity 8 as default desktop environment in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Mark Shuttleworth also state that, "In a long list of life's lessons learned, 'be gentle pushing people onto your new code' is high up. So we won't require U8 for everyone even when it's first class. Ubuntu Phones going to introduce Nokia HERE as GPS Service Provider
Ubuntu Phone team officially announces that they are going to use Nokia HERE Maps as the key provider of location positioning services. As you know that HERE Maps by Nokia provides comprehensive mapping and location intelligence with accurate results. An agreement made between Nokia and Ubuntu, so that Nokia HERE will be used to provide GPS support on Ubuntu based Phones.
According to official announcement, Nokia HERE on Ubuntu Phones provides accurate positioning data for their location-based apps in under two minutes and signifiantly shorter time to first fix then the average for raw GPS technologies. The major feature which you might notice while using Nokia HERE on Ubuntu Phones includes faster positioning, privacy and security and better mapping capabilities.
As you know that HERE provides a hybrid solution with integrated A-GPS and WiFi positioning system. However, Ubuntu already uses its own GPS-based location service but it is not sufficient to support the location services which runs on the OS with a rapid and efficient location positioning capability. This fully integrated solution will be available to number of application developers who are currently using Ubuntu OS on their own hardware.
The new system has been designed in such a manner that it collects data anonymously on WiFi signal strength and local radio cells and pass this data back to a remote crowd-sourced location service. This is purely to improve the overall quality of positioning service and is in line with Ubuntu's policy on its use of personal data and an opt-out option will be available to all users.
