Linux Mint 17.1 officially codenamed as "Rebecca" & has same base as of "Qiana"
Linux Mint development team officially announces that the Linux Mint 17.1 will be codenamed as "Rebecca". Before giving the codename to Mint 17.1 series, it wasn't easy to find a codename starting with Q initially and with the move to LTS it's getting harder and harder as the series might get a total of 4 or more releases.
According to official announcement, Linux Mint 17.1 will be codenamed as "Rebecca". Well the codenames of Mint 17.1 series already breaks the current Mint naming tradition because the traditional Mint series is codenamed with starting letter "Q" where as the developers are thinking to code naming the Mint 17.1 series with starting letter "R". Many of you might thinking that why the development team naming this release as "Rebecca". Well, Rebecca word comes from Hebrew origin which originally means "to bind". This name was borne in the Bible by the wife of Isaac. This particular name was also famous since 1938 by the book from Daphne du Maurier entitled "Rebecca" and adapted into a movie by Alfred Hitchcock in 1940.
