KDE Frameworks 5.2 receives OpenGL Support in Plasma & Minor Bug Fixes
KDE Community officially announces the release of second release of KDE Frameworks 5 which is also known as KDE Frameworks 5.1 version. This release is out as per schedule and contains new features and bug fixes of previous KDE Frameworks release.
According to official announcement, KDE Frameworks 5.1 comes with some of the translation fixes along with few Windows compilation fixes. The major refractories and improvements of vi-mode are made in KTextEditor. The KAuth application is now based on PolkitQt5-1 and new migration agent is added for KWallet application. This release also includes new install dir for KXmlGui files and Appstream metainfo.
The main highlighted feature of KDE Frameworks 5.1 is that the Plasma desktop takes an advantage of OpenGL. David Edmundson, who worked on Plasma with OpenGL, state that " I have been working hard the last weeks. It’s not that we don’t usually work hard, but this time I’m really excited about it". The complete info about Plasma with OpenGL is given here.
As we know that in Plasma, the most important part of system drawing is painting frames. Those are in general elements which are specified in Plasma themes. These will be buttons, dialog backgrounds and line edit decorations. To paint those we were assembling the full image in the CPU and then sending it over to OpenGL as a full texture, then we would do the composing of all the different frames, according to the information provided by QtQuick, through the Qt Scene Graph.
