GIMP 2.8.12 released with Jenkins Tutorials and Fixes for Core, GUI, Plugins


GIMP development team officially announces the release of GIMP 2.8.12 with new changes in core, GUI, Libgimp, Plug-ins and other minor bug fixes. As you all know that GIMP is a popular image manipulation program which allows you to edit, retouch, resize images.

According to official announcement, GIMP 2.8.12 comes with Jenkins tutorials along with few updates in documentation and translations. It includes fixed brush sizes while using from plug-ins and makes XCF loading more robust against broken files. GIMP for Windows allows to explorer-open files with UTF-8 characters in the filename.

The graphical user interface of GIMP 2.8.12 removes the option to disable the warning when closing a modified image. It make sure that the widget direction matches the GUI language. GIMP 2.8.12 makes script-fu-server more secure by listening to 127.0.0.1 by default and add a warning about changing that IP. This breaks the procedure's API, but for security reasons. How to Install GIMP 2.8.10 using PPA on Ubuntu, Debian and Linux Mint


GIMP is a GNU Image Manipulation Program which is primarily used for image retouching and editing, free-form drawing, resizing, cropping, photo-montages, converting between different image formats and more specialized tasks. In today's HowTo Tutorial, we will discuss how to install latest GIMP 2.8.10 using PPA on Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint and other Debian based Linux Distros.

Step Wise Installation of GIMP 2.8.10 (Raster Graphics Editor) using PPA on Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint and other Debian based Linux Distros

Step 1 : Before beginning the installation, Open the terminal and run or copy the following command in terminal to add PPA for GIMP 2.8.10 on your Debian based Linux Distros.
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp
Step 2 : Next, run or copy the following command in terminal to update recently added PPA for GIMP 2.8.10 in the software repository on your Debian based Linux Distros.
$ sudo apt-get update
Step 3 : Finally, run or copy the following command in terminal to install latest GIMP 2.8.10 on your Debian based Linux Distros.
$ sudo apt-get install gimp
After installation, search for "GIMP" either in Unity Dash or in Application menu. Open your favorite images for editing in GIMP software.

digiKam 4.6.0 released with Fixed Image Editor & Batch Queue Manager

digiKam developers officially announces the release of digiKam Software Collection 4.6.0 with minor new changes and bugfixes. As you know that digiKam Software Collection is a digital photography management tool specially used by Photographers for correction and manipulation of Images.

According to official announcement, digiKam 4.6.0 Software Collection comes with bugfixes in Image Editor and Batch Queue Manager. It includes fixes like sub sub-folders separated with '/' in file path cannot be created with album selection dialog, full image dimensions now shown when not viewing at 100% zoom level, tags are losts randomly when converting TIFF and PNG.

The preview fails when importing images because digiKam uses a wrong path with Gphoto2 camera is also fixed in this release. Other fixes includes taget ICC profile is common to all queues from BQM, mouse-over preview mode does not work, unable to zoom out to less than fit to window, sidecar files are neither created nor updated under Windows. Image Editor, digiKam 4.3.0 released with OSX Event Notifier Support & Bug Fixes


digiKam developers officially announces the release of digiKam 4.3.0 with new addition and few improvements. Well there are several softwares available for photographers and image editors, so digiKam is another famous image editor which is used for photo corrections and manipulation. Currently this software is available for KDE based Linux Distros. The updated version of digiKam 4.3.0 primarily includes few new additions along with several bug fixes. According to official announcement, digiKam 4.3.0 comes with new option which is used to display all non geo-located images from collections along with new action to exclude items without rating with items filter. It also includes new notification event when kio-slave cannot be started. The OS X event notifier is now used to dispatch notifications under Mac.

Apart from these new additions, the developers of digiKam 4.3.0 closes some of the bugs which were reported since previous release. Some of the bug fixes are add "Open with.." option in image editor, sort images by camera, handle existing read-only photo trees without copying, digiKam automatic photographic Labels, hidden tags for archiving purposes and faster display of images and prefetch wished for. Image Editor, Fotoxx 14.08 receives Support for Edit Metadata in RAW Images


Fotoxx team officially announces the release of Fotoxx 14.08 with new features and minor bug fixes. As you know that Fotoxx is an open source photo editing and collection management software which allows you edit your personal images. This release includes several new features along with performance improvements. This software is specifically designed for Linux distros.

According to official announcement, Fotoxx 14.08 comes with improved user interface which is used for creating or replacing a collection. The images inside collection can now be rearranged by dragging thumbnails. With this updated Fotoxx, you can easily edit metadata in RAW images which was earlier restricted. Some of the non obvious dialog controls now have popup tips when moused-over.

Fotoxx 14.08 comes with new effect by which you can create waves or add random waves to an image or selected area. The Undo/Redo button is now combined with "A" key so that it is possible to perform Undo/Redo action all files. The menu icon size is now adjustable through Tools -> User Settings. You can also open previous file which retains zoom size and position to facilitate fast comparison of two zoomed image versions. Photo Editor, Fotoxx 14.09 released with Minor Bug Fixes & Improvements


Fotoxx team officially announces the release of Fotoxx 14.09 with new changes and minor bug fixes. As you know that Fotoxx is one of the popular image viewing and editing software which is used to edit images/photos and manage large collection. It includes thumbnail image browser and navigator, RAW file import, a comprehensive set of edit functions working in deep color, fast full-image visual feedback, multiple undo/redo and select/copy/paste.

According to official announcement, Fotoxx 14.09 comes with dialog set focus in main window after use of apply or next button, so subsequent KB shortcuts will work without extra mouse action. It also displays "no more images" message after deleting the last image in current gallery. The additional dialogs now restore previous inputs also across sessions.

If any image file is renamed or moved and the original image is deleted then collections containing images are automatically updated. The problematic move collections function was removed. Under area select, it selects by matching colors with little efforts.

This release uses same window or open another window when a thumbnail is clicked. The one window option is effectively a combined image and gallery view with adjustable allocation of screen space between the two views and two click selection of each image to view. It also includes new utility function to find and display all duplicate images along with new option to auto replay after reaching the end. Fotoxx 14.10 released with Translation Updates, New Features & Bugfixes


Kornelix, developer of Fotoxx, officially announces the release of Fotoxx 14.10.1 with minor bug fixes and few updates. Well this is the minor release compared to previous release. The developers after releasing Fotoxx 14.10 one day earlier realize that they have missed out some issues which might causes some issues later on, so they fixed them in Fotoxx 14.10.1 release.

According to official announcement, Fotoxx 14.10.1 comes with few translation updates specially for languages like Spanish, Catalan, Italian and Portuguese. One of the issue which was noticed in previous release is fixed in this release, according to it when someone tries to upgrade from older version of Fotoxx to newer one then it makes window menus invisible.

So to make the menu visible, this release just deletes the line "menu style" in the file /home/<user>/.fotoxx/parameters. The main Fotoxx 14.10 release comes with waves effect which includes horizontal and vertical wavelength, magnitude and variance can be set independently. You can draw lines and arrows on image or made mashup montage much easier.

There are some bugs which are now fixed in Fotoxx 14.10 release. The bugs which are fixed in this release includes Image date and size in the search index were not always updated when changed, print image function with grid lines enabled did not print the horizontal grid lines clearly and mashup crash when deleting and adding text in a mixed sequence.
