How to Install LightDM GTK Greeter via PPA on Xubuntu, Lubuntu & Kubuntu

LightDM is another lightweight display manager which is quite popular among Lubuntu, Xubuntu and Kubuntu users. This program allows you to manage X servers and facilitates remote logins via XDMCP protocol along with customization of login screen. The LightDM GTK+ Greeter is available in GTK+2 or GTK+3, supports Ubuntu indicator, supports loading user wallpaper and profile image, configurable clock and named widgets allow for easy customization. You can also download the source tarball of LightDM GTK+ Greeter 1.9.0 for your Linux distros.

In today's HowTo Tutorial, we will discuss how to install LightDM GTK+ Greeter Settings 0.3 using PPA on Xubuntu 14.10, Xubuntu 14.04, Lubuntu 14.10 and Lubuntu 14.04 systems. Well you can also try to install it on Ubuntu 14.10, 14.04, Linux Mint 17 but we are not sure whether it will work out or not.

Step Wise Installation of LightDM GTK+ Greeter Settings 0.3 using PPA on Xubuntu 14.10, 14.04 and Lubuntu 14.10, 14.04

Step 1 : Before beginning the installation, Open the terminal and run or copy the following command in terminal to add PPA for LightDM GTK+ Greeter Settings 0.3 on your Xubuntu and Lubuntu system.
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kalgasnik/ppa
Step 2 : Next, run or copy the following command in terminal to update recently added PPA for LightDM GTK+ Greeter Settings 0.3 in the software repository on your Xubuntu and Lubuntu system.
$ sudo apt-get update
Step 3 : Finally, run or copy the following command in terminal to install latest LightDM GTK+ Greeter Settings 0.3 on your Xubuntu and Lubuntu system.
$ sudo apt-get install lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings
Step 4 : After installation, it time to launch the application. For this run or copy the following command in terminal to launch LightDM GK+ Greeter Settings on your system.
$ sudo lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings
Now you can easily change themes, icons, background, clock format, login dialog window position on your machine.

How to Install XFCE Theme Manager 0.3.6 using PPA on Xubuntu 14.10 & 14.04

XFCE Theme Manager is a simple tool which allows you to change desktop themes from single GUI and it also includes thumbnails for each new theme which you are going to explore on your Xubuntu system. Well earlier it was very tedious to change desktop themes and icons because XFCE uses multiple settings GUIs for setting the window border, controls, icons, mouse cursor abd theme, but it become quite easy with the help of XFCE Theme Manager. XFCE Theme Manager offers series of operations like changing controls only, change icon theme, change cursor theme, change wallpapers and change complete Xfce theme. Among other features, XFCE Theme Manager also provide customizable theme preview size, reset theme and install new themes using drag and drop option.

In today's HowTo Tutorial, we will discuss how to install latest stable XFCE Theme Manager 0.3.6 using PPA on Xubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" and Xubuntu 14.04. Well we are not sure but you can try to run these commands on other Ubuntu variants, it might be possible that XFCE Theme Manager can install on other variants too, but try this at your own risk.

Step Wise Installation of XFCE Theme Manager 0.3.6 using PPA on Xubuntu 14.10 and Xubuntu 14.04

Step 1 : Before beginning the installation, Open the terminal and run or copy the following command in terminal to add PPA for XFCE Theme Manager 0.3.6 on your Xubuntu system.
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rebuntu16/other-stuff
Step 2 : Next, run or copy the following command in terminal to update recently added PPA for XFCE Theme Manager 0.3.6 in the software repository on your Xubuntu system.
$ sudo apt-get update
Step 3 : Finally, run or copy the following command in terminal to install latest stable XFCE Theme Manager 0.3.6 on your Xubuntu system.
$ sudo apt-get install xfce-theme-manager
After installation, search for "XFCE Theme Manager" in application menu and then launch it from there. After opening XFCE Theme Manager, now you can easily customise your themes and icons on your Xubuntu system.
