Mozilla Thunderbird 31.4.0 Mail Client officially arrives in Ubuntu Repository

Canonical and Ubuntu team officially updated the newer version of Mozilla Thunderbird 31.4.0 mail client in their repository, so that users of Ubuntu derivative can update their Thunderbird to newer version. The Ubuntu developers noticed some of the issues which are fixed in this release.

According to official announcement, Thunderbird 31.4.0 mail client is currently available for Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Well this updated version primarily includes several security issue fixes which were reported in previous release. We have also discussed some of the issues which are discovered by developers in this release.

The Christian Holler and Patrick McManus discovered multiple memory safety issues in Thunderbird. If a user were tricked in to opening a specially crafted message with scripting enabled, an attacker could potentially exploit these to cause a denial of service via application crash or execute arbitary code with the privileges of the user invoking Thunderbird.

Muneaki Nishimura discovered that requests from navigator.sendBeacon() lack an origin header. If a user were tricked in to opening a specially crafted message with scripting enabled, an attacker could potentially exploit this conduct cross-site request forgery (XSRF) attacks. Ubunut 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" going to receive Linux Kernel 3.18 as default Kernel

Dear readers, as you know that the development of Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" already started and as usual Ubuntu still going to introduce latest version of Linux Kernel in its upcoming stable release. On last sunday, Linus Torvalds officially announces the release of stable Linux Kernel 3.18 with new features which is going to deploy in upcoming Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" distro.

The unstable and developer's version of Ubuntu 15.04 is ready for use but its not for regular users. So if you try to use unstable Ubuntu 15.04 then you can access Kernel 3.18 in it. Till date, Kernel 3.18 is the most recent one but before the final release of Ubuntu 15.04 Linus might announce Kernel 3.19 then we hope that Ubuntu 15.04 might introduce Kernel 3.19 as default kernel. According to one of the announcement made by Joseph Salisbury, The master-next branch of our Vivid kernel has been rebased to the final v3.18 upstream kernel. We have pushed uploads to our team's PPA for preliminary testing. We will likely upload to the official archive soon. As per the schedule, the first Alpha version of Ubuntu 15.04 going to arrive on 18th December wheras second Alpha will arrive on 22nd January. Ubuntu Developer Tool Center (UDTC) officially renamed to Ubuntu Make

Ubuntu developers officially renamed that Ubuntu Developer Tools Center to "Ubuntu Make". Well this name suggested by lot of Ubuntu users as you know that few weeks ago, the team has launched a contest to rename Ubuntu Developers Tools Center (UDTC) and here they officially renamed it to Ubuntu Make.

According to official announcement, during the contest, over 40 names were proposed on IRC, Google Plus and via comments on Ubuntu forums. Ubuntu team has shown their gratitude towards Walter Lapchynski, who came up with this awesome name and will receive his T-Shirt as a token of gift for winning the contest of renaming UDTC. The community updated the documentation, project page to match the newer name of UDTC and also included redirection for smooth transition. By renaming the UDTC to Ubuntu Make, the community also launches "umake" command which primarily emphasizes on the usage of Ubuntu as a great developer platform and create awesome applications and services. The community officially announces the release of first Ubuntu Make 0.2 version and also promised to provide support for renamed and older version of UDTC.
