Unity 8 for Ubuntu 15.04 is almost ready and now available for Testing
Ubuntu developers still working on Unity 8 and claiming that it will going to introduce new and advanced features which were not present in Unity 7. Currently, Unity 8 won't ready for regular users but only available for developers. As you know that Unity will be the desktop environment supported by Ubuntu derivatives only and also allows its users to upgrade their Unity desktop from Unity 7 to Unity 8.
According to official announcement by Will Cooke, it is officially confirmed that the apps, UI tweaks and other things make the application more secure and stable which will be directly apply to desktop as well. The community is planning to make a single converged operating system ready for public use by Ubuntu 16.04 release.
Unity 8 desktop is already implemented in Ubuntu Touch operating system, which is designed for Ubuntu Phones and Ubuntu Tablets. The developers are saying that it will take little time before they release Unity version for desktop users because they are putting lot of efforts in automating the features of Unity 8 for desktop users.
The upcoming new Ubuntu Desktop going to provides applications decoupled from OS updates, application isolation and full SDK for writing Ubuntu apps.
