QEMU 2.2.0 RC4 Emulator released with New Changes & Minor Bugfixes

Michael Roth, developer at QEMU, officially announces the release of fifth release candidate of QEMU 2.2.0. Currently this version is available for testing purposes and should not be used in production environment. According to team this is the last planned RC release before the final QEMU 2.2 which is going to release on 5th December, 2014. He also exposes some of the important plans of QEMU which includes what it will include and when it will be available for production usage.

QEMU is a generic and open source machine emulator and virtualizer. When using QEMU as machine emulator, then it run OSes and programs made for one machine on different machine where as when someone tries to use it as virtualizer, then QEMU achieves new native performances by executing the guest code directly on host CPU.

According to official announcement, QEMU 2.2 RC4 comes with fixed vhostfd leak in error branch along with fix for crash after migration in virtio-rng on bi-endian targets. It also includes fixed unmap leak in virtio-net along with fixed regression of HMP device_del auto-completion in hmp. You can download the source tarball of QEMU 2.2.0 RC4 to compile it on your machine.

Among other bugfixes, QEMU 2.2.0 RC4 includes fixed compile error in s390x/kvm, fixed boot order bug when dynamically modified via QOM in fw_cfg, fixed handling of VMWare ioport emulation for xen in -machine vmport=auto.
