XBMC and OpenELEC development team officially announces the release of OpenELEC 4.1.6 which is also known as OpenELEC 4.2 Beta 6 with new improvements and fixes. As you know that OpenELEC 4.1 series is bascially a test series for upcoming OpenELEC 4.2 stable distro after release of previous stable OpenELEC 4.0 version.
According to official announcement, OpenELEC 4.2 Beta 6 comes with few bug fixes, security fixes and minor improvements since the release of last OpenELEC 4.2 Beta 5 version. Apart from fixes, this beta release includes updated Mesa 10.3-rc3, llvm 3.5.0 and Linux Kernel 3.16.2. The team also fixes a crash in OpenELEC installer when pairing a PS3 remote.
This release also updates the RaspberryPi firmware which includes last fixes and new features. It also includes addition of STK1160 framegrabber, CH341 USB-serial support along with PSTATE CPU scaling driver for Intel Systems. For RaspberryPi users, this beta release comes with new MMC/SDCard driver which is running as default from this release on wards. Also, review recent Linux Distro News to know what's new in them ?
The MMC/SDCard Driver is acting like default sdcard driver. It should avoid some of the issues of the old driver like polling with intrrupts disabled and could improve performance and avoid interfering with other drivers. You can easily disable this new driver by adding bcm2708.bcm2835_mmc=0 to cmdline.txt file. You might also like to check out other latest Software News on our website.
