Linus Torvalds announces the release of Kernel 3.18 RC7 & Final 3.18 next week

Linus Torvalds officially announces the release of Linux Kernel 3.18 RC7 with minor changes and fixes. This is the seventh release candidate and most probably the last candidate under 3.18 series. Linus might announces the stable and final release of Kernel 3.18 on next sunday because holiday season is nearby and it may delay the final release of Kernel 3.18, so we are hoping that 3.18 will arrive by the end of this week.

According to official announcement, Linus clearify that the development of this candidate is moving in smooth pace but he worries about the pending issues. In his official statement, he says "Things are calming down nicely, and everything looks pretty normal. In fact, if it wasn't for the pending issues with odd watchdog (and possibly rcu) lockups I'd be pretty happy. As it is, that isn't a regression from 3.17, but is still very disturbing."

He also exclaimed that Christmas holidays are near by and he is planning to release final version of Kernel 3.18 before holidays. We are hoping the Linus will announce Kernel 3.18 final in most probably by the end of this week. In his announcement, he says "At the same time, with the holidays coming up, and the problem _not_being a regression, I suspect that what will happen is that I'll release 3.18 on time in a week, because delaying it will either mess up the merge window and the holiday season, or I'd have to delay it a *lot*." In previous release candidate, he mentioned that issue discovered by DaveJ which is still in fixing state and DaveJ working on it before the final release. The Kernel 3.18 RC7 comes with two third driver fixes including drivers for usb, networking, staging, thermal, gpu and sound. Apart from this other fixes are made in architecture which includes fixes for mips, arm and powerpc. We have also enlisted some of the fixes below in this post.
