Kodi 14.0 "Helix" RC released with Support for FFmpeg 2.4.3, H.265 & VP9 Codecs
XBMC and Kodi developers officially announces the release of first release candidate of Kodi 14.0 Helix. As you now that this is a release candidate and only available for testing purposes. The team is also planning to changing the name of XBMC to Kodi soon. XBMC 13 was the last media center and Kodi will be the new incarnation of earlier XBMC with new features and advanced functionalities.
According to official announcement, Kodi 14.0 Media Center comes with updated FFmpeg 2.4.3 which allows its users to play H.265 and VP9 video codecs. The support for FFmpeg results in dramatically smaller video files sizes with exactly the same level of quality. This compression actually results in reducing the size in almost half its original size like 40GB file could be compressed to 20GB file.
The compression feature of Kodi 14.0 might entice to those who appreciate to reduce the file size in almost half of its original size. It also includes software support for VP9 video codecs. The library of Kodi is improved a bit both in and out. The inside library scanning receives massive speed boost which make the initial scan on Android and iOS devices quite a but more spiritedly.
The output side includes work on UPnP. This release is more compatible with servers like PlayOn and MediaBrowser.
