Canonical & Ubuntu celebrates fourth Anniversary of Unity Desktop Environment

Canonical officially announces the completion of four years of Unity desktop environment and celebrates this event with other Ubuntu developers. As you know that since Ubuntu 11.04, every release includes default Unity desktop environment and now it completes four successful years. Well Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" was the first one to adopt new Unity desktop environment.

During its early period, Unity desktop environment was not favored by lot of people because of its new for them and not much user friendly than GNOME 2.x desktop environment. One thing was done great by Ubuntu developers that they kept GNOME desktop packages along with Unity desktop packages and gave liberty to its users to change their desktop environment according to their needs.

The main objective behind providing Unity desktop because earlier lot of people complaining about issues of GNOME 2.x desktop and also they want new features. Some of the patches were also sent by Ubuntu developers but wasn't accepted by GNOME community, so they have planned to design their own desktop environment. After four years, Unity is quite popular among Ubuntu users and they appreciate whatever changes made by Ubuntu developers in Unity desktop environment.
